Open Doors for Special Learners is an NGO that runs Open Doors Special Education Center in Jos Nigeria. The Center provides quality Special Education, vocational training, speech therapy and physiotherapy for children and youth with mental retardation, autism, cerebral palsy and other developmental disorders. The current enrollment is about 90 children and youth. The salaries and running costs come from fees paid either by the families or individual sponsors. The Center depends on outside funding for development and construction projects. Because of the present economic hardship in Nigeria many parents have been unable to pay fees regularly. As a result the Center is struggling to pay salaries, pay its debts and meet urgent maintenance needs. The Small World funds will go towards repair and renovate classrooms and ceilings.
